I'm a 2020 applicant and have just received an offer for Manchester. I too came from a family background with no clinical experience. My mother was a nurse which did come in handy, but you should not feel at all disadvantaged because of your background or the background of your parents. The first significant work experience I got was through volunteering on a ward at my local hospital. My hospital trust's website were advertising vacancies for ward volunteers so I applied. This was useful as I got to see how the different multidisciplinary ward teams integrate to meet the primary goal of maintaing a patient's needs.
