Consent: A just evolution

Consent to process personal information when providing healthcare services in the United Kingdom (UK) is currently regulated by the Data Protection Act (2018) [1] which complements the European Union ’s (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) [2] on how personal information is used by organisations. These advocate not relying on silence, inactivity or pre-ticked boxes; ensuring that the consent for processing personal data is distinguishable, clear, and is not “bundled” with other w ritten agreements or declarations; that patients are informed about their right to withdraw consent at any time as easily as giving it, etc.
