HSG After Tubal Reversal Surgery

A Tubal Reversal Message Board member stated, “I have one tube left that is only 3cm. We have been trying for almost a year” and she wants to know if it is worth spending the money for an HSG dye test to see if her one tube is open. Dr. Charles Monteith recommends having an HSG if a patient has been trying to conceive for 6-12 months but has not had a positive pregnancy test after tubal reversal surgery. Though HSG’s are the most widely used test to determine fallopian tube patency, the results are often inconclusive or inaccurately read. If a potential blockage is seen, do not panic. In many cases, it may be a problem with the testing and not with the tube. After completing the HSG x-ray you should have the images and report sent to Dr. Monteith for review.
