We were baffled by the unpleasant tone of the Letter to the Editor submitted to your prestigious journal by Ludwin et al [1] in reference to our recently published article [2]. Among well-respected scientists, it is clearly understood that scientific discussion should always engage in constructive and responsible oppositions of ideas, rather than in disrespectful insinuations. This principle should be applied particularly when a scientific debate is printed in a scientific journal to not only discredit the authors ’ work but also protect the credibility of the editorial team and the journal itself.
