Right bronchopleural fistula treated with a novel, Y-shaped, single-plugged, covered, metallic airway stent.

ConclusionThe placement of Y-shaped, single-plugged, covered, self-expandable metallic airway stents seems to be a feasible and safe method for the treatment of bronchopleural fistulas involving the right main bronchus. This stent is a promising therapeutic alternative for bronchopleural fistulas involving the right main bronchus. PMID: 23507935 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

We report the case of a male patient with cutaneous metastasis of prostate adenocarcinoma located in the cervical and upper thoracic area. The patient also had a history of pulmonary tuberculosis. A CT scan revealed the presence of bone metastasis, pleural effusion, and infiltration of the soft tissues of the neck. The histopathological study confirmed the presence of cutaneous metastasis of primary prostate neoplasia. We present this case due to its unusualness and its importance in the differential diagnosis of this pathology. PMID: 31800950 [PubMed - in process]

The objective of this study was to determine the association of Computed tomography quantified visceral (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) using CKD-EPI formula, diabetes mellitus, body mass index (BMI), proteinuria, lipid profile, and hypertension. Increased adipose tissue is the primary phenotypic characteristic of obesity. The amount and distribution of adipose tissue is associated with many adverse consequences, as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease etc. Abdominal CT with semi-automated software can quantify adipose tissue and predict the risk...

Authors: Loudos G, Georgiou M, Rouchota M, Papadimitroulas P, Fysikopoulos E Abstract BACKGROUND: For every new drug,>10,000 candidate molecules are tested for ~15 years. This is the daily mission of thousands research teams worldwide. It is well proven that small animal imaging speeds up this work, increases accuracy and decreases costs. However, commercial imaging systems have high purchase cost, require high service contracts, special facilities and trained staff. Thus, they are affordable to only few large research centres and not to the majority of small and medium research teams internationally. There are ...

CONCLUSION: The low agreement between amyloid PET/CT and previous clinical and instrumental assessments that we found in our study suggests that the amyloid PET/CT provides additional and early information. To perform an early and differential diagnosis of AD could have a great impact on the patient's management and cost of care in order to perform the correct therapeutic interventions and to allow family members to manage adequately the patient's demanding care. CONCLUSIONS: This smartphone application coupled with targeting device can be used in various settings such as EVD placement in hydrocephalus and in other brain targeting candidates in emergency settings. Also, it may be used in any emergency or neurosurgery department centers with no access to advanced neuro-imaging facilities, only using patient's simple cranial measures to achieve acceptable and highly accurate brain targeting compared with conventional, time consuming and costly techniques. We plan to expand this study to clinical trials for further evaluation. PMID: 31802048 [PubMed - in process]

Conclusion The use of Hopkins criteria for posttherapy assessment in patients with lung cancer represents an easy and reproducible method with substantial to almost perfect interobserver agreement and high positive predictive value and accuracy; moreover, it is easily understood by referring physicians. Additionally, there was no significant difference when applying a semi-quantitative measure to the same five-point score.
