Remote Ischaemic Preconditioning: The Silver Bullet or a Stepping Stone to Success in the Arteriopath?

Experimental data suggest causal relationships between remote ischaemic preconditioning (RIPC) and end organ protection. To date, its mechanism is incompletely understood while efficacy ex  vivo has not been borne out by translational data. In keeping with the sentiment of Lejay et al.,1 we propose that the benefits of RIPC may indeed be shrouded by the methodological inadequacies of current clinical evidence.
