A case report depicting patient ’s installation on the fracture table when an ankle spanning external fixator is already in place

Fractures of the proximal and diaphyseal femur are frequently internally fixed using a fracture table. Moreover, some femoral neck fractures may be treated with total hip arthroplasty using a direct anterior a...

Patients with a STAR ankle replacement should be aware of the symptoms listed in Stryker Corp’s communication, since a polyethylene fracture may be subtle and go unnoticed, and contact their health care provider about potential next steps. pic.twitter.com/xIoaheNgax

ConclusionsSurgeon related errors can be minimized by a meticulous operative technique. These results indicate scope for additional technical improvement, especially in hip centre acquisition, which may further reduce the incidence of outliers.

We report 100% survivorship of the implant at a mean follow-up of 4.9 years. Compared with preoperative levels, all clinical outcome scores showed significant improvement at the 1-year, 2-year, and 5-year and longer follow-up. The mean clinical ROM improved from 27.7° ± 10.7° preoperatively to 40.0° ± 12.3° at the 2-year follow-up (p

Thiesen, Alina Koniker, Thorsten Gehrke, Philipp Linke, Malte Ohlmeier, Jochen Salber, Mustafa CitakAbstractPeriprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) is a serious complication, and a reliable diagnostic test to identify PJI is needed. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of synovial α-defensin levels in identifying PJI of the ankle. Data from 33 patients were retrospectively collected between September 2015 and May 2018. Patients who had pain or suspected...

This study examined post-total knee arthroplasty (TKA) mechanical axis (MA), measured on hip-to-ankle radiographs, for patients with a body mass index (BMI)>30 when a fixed 6° valgus distal femoral cut was made. A retrospective radiographic review included 347 TKAs receiving a distal femoral cut of 6° valgus. A distal femoral cut of 6° valgus successful established a neutral, ±3° MA in 86.7% of the 347 obese patients, with a slight tendency toward varus in patients with a BMI>40. A fixed cut may provide more consistent post-TKA alignment, when visualization of anatomical landmarks is made diffi...

The early outcomes of the Salto Talaris ® Total Ankle Prosthesis have been promising, but information on its mid-term outcomes is still sparse. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mid-term clinical and radiographic outcomes of this implant among a prospective cohort of patients who underwent total ankle replacement for various etiologies. Forty-six patients (50 ankles) were consecutively enrolled in the study. Our primary aim was to assess implant survivorship as determined by the removal or revision of the implant metal components or conversion to arthrodesis.
