Cataracts Treatment: An Overview of Pediatric Cataracts

Among South Carolina Ophthalmologists, Dr. Edward Wilson performs at least 100 cataract treatment surgeries a year, and in some cases on patients as young as 4-6 weeks old, to remove the cataract. Dr. Wilson explains how the cataract can develop, how a delay in diagnosis can affect the eye, the importance of using a patch following the surgery, and recommends partnering with the child’s pediatrician and the Storm Eye Institute at MUSC if surgery is needed.
