The rising prevalence of type 1 diabetes (T1D) over the past decades has been linked to lifestyle changes, but the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. Recent findings point to gut-associated mechanisms in the control of T1D pathogenesis. In nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice, a model of T1D, diabetes development accelerates after deletion of the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). We hypothesized that altered intestinal functions contribute to metabolic alterations, which favor accelerated diabetes development in TLR4-deficient (TLR4−/−) NOD mice. In 70–90-day-old normoglycemic (prediabetic) female NOD TLR4+/+ ...

Conclusion: The seroprevalence ofH. pylori antibodies was lower compared to most developing countries. Keeping a dog, household size, indoor tap water, fathers ’ occupation and diabetes mellitus type 1 were found to be independent predictors of presence ofH. pylori antibodies. Keywords:Helicobacter Pylori.

AbstractTo examine how self-regulation and social-regulation surrounding type 1 diabetes (T1D) management are coordinated during early emerging adulthood and whether classes of coordination relate to HbA1c and executive functioning (EF). Emerging adult participants (N = 212) with T1D (M age = 18.8 years, SD = .40) completed a 14-day diary to capture components of self-regulation and social-regulation. A mixture multi-level latent coordination model first determined the separate but coordinated factor structure of self- and social-regulation, then de termined the number of dist...

We examined whether the use of antiasthmatic drugs was associated with the development of type 1 diabetes in childhood in a nationwide, register-based case-cohort study. We identified all children who were born 1.1.1995-31.12.2008 in Finland and diagnosed with type 1 diabetes by 2010 (n = 3,342). A 10% random sample from each birth year cohort was selected as a reference cohort (n = 80,909). Information on all dispensed antiasthmatic drugs (the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical classification system code R03) during 1995-2009 were obtained, and the associations between the use of antiasthmatic drugs and the development of ty...
