Improvement in reduction of body mass index and no effect of lipid profile in bariatric surgery with omentectomy

We read with great interest Andrew MS's report about weight loss in baboons caused by mesenteric visceral lipoidectomy (MVL) (1). They found that obese baboons lost significant weight when they were performed in MVL. Recently, there was a meta-analysis by Lee et al (2) suggesting that bariatric surgery with omentectomy has significantly reduced in body mass index (BMI) compared with bariatric surgery alone (MD 1.29, 95% CI 0.35, 2.23). However, high-density lipoprotein significantly increased in bariatric surgery alone (MD -2.12, 95% CI -4.13, -0.11).
