Firstly, bovine whey proteins was pretreated by ultrasonic techniques, and its secondary structure was detected by circular dichroism. The pretreated whey proteins was used as the fermentation substrate by Kluyveromyces marxianus for microbial transformation. The single factor design and Box-Behnken Design (BBD) were carried out with the aim to optimize culture t...

For this reason, oxidative desulfurization (ODS) and ultrasound assisted oxidative desulfurization (UAOD) processes were applied, using oxygen, as the only oxidative agent, and polyoxometalate (POM) catalysts. The catalysts were analyzed using FT-IR, XRD, EDX, SEM and N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms along with...

A 5-month-old infant underwent resection of a mitral valve mass + mitral valvuloplasty at our hospital. The tricuspid valve mass was still small, and no tricuspid regurgitation was observed; therefore, the tricuspid valve mass ...

Over the past 3 decades, significant improvements and innovations have occurred in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. For example, the availability of high-definition endoscopes with detailed image enhancement capabilities allows us to routinely seek out nonpolypoid and precancerous lesions within the gastrointestinal tract; the wide variety of user-friendly accessories allows us to perform more complex resections through the endoscope, and advancements with endoscopic ultrasound allows us to perform precise assessments and therapies.

Conclusions: Motor and cognitive skills decay at different times for pleural and cardiac images. Future ultrasound curricula should retrain skills at a maximum of 8 weeks from initial training. They should focus more on didactic sessions related to image identification for pleural images, and more hands-on image acquisition training for cardiac images, which represents a novel finding.

The ability to obtain peripheral intravenous (IV) access, and in a timely manner, is arguably one of the most important skill sets to be mastered by health care professionals. While skill and experience play a role in successful and timely vascular access, numerous pati...

AbstractHigh-altitude ascent imposes a unique cerebrovascular challenge due to two opposing blood gas chemostimuli. Specifically, hypoxia causes cerebral vasodilation, whereas respiratory-induced hypocapnia causes vasoconstriction. The conflicting nature of these two superimposed chemostimuli presents a challenge in quantifying cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) in chronic hypoxia. During incremental ascent to 4240  m over 7 days in the Nepal Himalaya, we aimed to (a) characterize the relationship between arterial blood gas stimuli and anterior, posterior and global (g)CBF, (b) develop a novel index to quantify cer...
