In this study, first we determined toxic doses of this complex on NIH/3T3 normal fibroblast cells, SPC212 mesothelioma and ascertained anti-proliferative, apoptotic and morphological effects of these newly synthesized compounds on DU145 prostate cancer cells through cytotoxic and microscopic methods. A novel Copper(II)/1-(4-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl)-1H-benzimidazole/2,2’-bipyridyl complex, was synthesized, and mainly characterized by single crystal x-ray diffraction analysis. Anti-proliferative effect of copper(II) complex was gauged by MTT. Its morphological effect was examined by microscope analysis. Besides, immuno...

Publication date: November 2019Source: Human Pathology: Case Reports, Volume 18Author(s): Shohei Matsuo, Emiko Tomita, Kenjiro Fukuhara, Akinori Akashi, Yoshitane TsukamotoAbstractWe experienced two cases of poorly differentiated synovial sarcoma (PDSS) arising from the chest wall. The first 42-year-old female patient was asymptomatic, but incidental chest roentgenogram showed a chest wall mass about 5-cm in maximal diameter with extrapleural sign. The chest wall mass was removed at other hospital. A tentative pathological diagnosis was mesothelioma with small cell features. After several courses of chemotherapy consisting...

The offices of some of President Donald Trump’s top aides, including his daughter Ivanka Trump and senior counselor Kellyanne Conway, have been temporarily relocated as the White House undergoes asbestos abatement work. An asbestos removal project is underway at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and is expected to be completed by the end of August. The abatement work will cost about $250,000, according to Pamela Pennington, press secretary for the U.S. General Services Administration. “The building has been, and remains, safe for occupancy as this work is being done as a precautionary measure,” Pennington said. I...

Intracavitary chemotherapy is a promising concept to improve local tumor control for malignant pleural mesothelioma with reported high morbidity rates. We have demonstrated that administration of cisplatin loaded to fibrin increased local drug concentration and reduced systemic toxicity in pre-clinical models. Here, we present a phase-I trial of intracavitary cisplatin-fibrin after surgical tumor resection.

The standard therapeutic modalities for this cancer have yielded unsatisfactory outcomes, therefore the development of alternative and effective therapies is currently an urgent requirement.Grapevine is a plant rich of bioactive compounds, known for its therapeutic effec...

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare form of thrombotic microangiopathy, characterized by the classic pentad of haemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, fever, renal impairment, and neurological complications. Early identification of TTP is essential for instituting early treatment and improving survival. An extensive variety of drugs, including certain cytotoxic agents, have been reported to be associated with TTP [1].

Pifithrin-μ induces necroptosis through oxidative mitochondrial damage but accompanies epithelial-mesenchymal transition-like phenomenon in malignant mesothelioma cells under lactic acidosis. Arch Pharm Res. 2019 Aug 19;: Authors: Lee YJ, Park KS, Heo SH, Nam HS, Cho MK, Lee SH Abstract Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), a chaperone protein associated with tumorigenesis and chemoresistance, has attracted significant attention as a potential therapeutic target for the development of anticancer drugs. Here, the effects of pifithrin-μ, an effective dual inhibitor of HSP70 and p53, on anticancer activit...
