A 24-year-old male  presented to the emergency department with a purpuric rash that started a week prior on the arms, trunk, and legs, along with acute onset testicular pain radiating to the lower abdomen. Ultrasound performed during that ED visit showed bilateral testicular solid masses, hypovascular or avascular, a nd a hypervascular left testicle and epididymis (Figure 1). Differential based on ultrasound findings included: testicular carcinoma, granulomatous epididymoorchitis such as sarcoidosis or tuberculosis, adrenal rests, lymphoma, or metastases.

Abstract In the lungs of 76 patients with verified sarcoidosis, 28 chemical elements were identified with neutron activation analysis. High levels of Ca, Fe, Cr, Co, Cs, Eu, Lu, Th, Hf, Au, and U and low level of Na compared to the control samples were determined in sarcoidosis. There were no significant differences in the content of Zn, Rb, La, Sm, Sr, Nd, As, Br, Ag, Tb, Sc, Ta, Sb, Ba, and Yb. We examined a 22-year-old woman who was admitted to our hospital with abdominal distention. At 19 years of age, the patient presented with hepatosplenomegaly. She was examined several times in another hospital; however, the cause was unidentified. Our evaluation showed severe pancytopenia and a spleen 13×24 cm in size. The serum levels of angiotensin-converting enzyme and lysozyme were elevated. She was diagnosed with liver sarcoidosis based on non-caseating epithelioid granuloma in liver biopsy tissue. ConclusionGalectin-1 was confirmed a protein of interest in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Its BAL concentrations were higher in IPF patients than in controls and correlated with disease severity. Galectin-1 was suggested to have a role in the pathogenesis of IPF, principally through the ERK/MAPK pathway and the inhibition of galectin-1 is a potential therapeutic target worthy of research.
