What Not to Eat if You Have Glaucoma
ConclusionsIn our study cohort, early surgery for PFV achieved functional visual acuity in about one-third of patients. Limbal approach to surgery may result in better visual acuity and anatomic results.

Authors: Kim JM, Kim KN, Kim WJ, Kim CS Abstract PURPOSE: We investigated changes in the thickness of the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) following the onset of an epiretinal membrane (ERM) in glaucoma patients. METHODS: Among regularly monitored glaucoma patients, patients with a newly diagnosed ERM were consecutively enrolled. Before and after the onset of ERM, the RNFL thickness was measured using spectral domain optical coherence tomography, and a visual field examination was performed using a Humphrey field analyzer. Changes in RNFL thickness parameters and global indices of the visual field...

Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) due to insufficient aqueous humor outflow through the trabecular meshwork and Schlemm's canal (SC) is the most important risk factor for glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness worldwide. We previously reported loss of function mutations in the receptor tyrosine kinase TEK or its ligand ANGPT1 cause primary congenital glaucoma in humans and mice due to failure of SC development. Here, we describe a novel approach to enhance canal formation in these animals by deleting a single allele of the gene encoding the phosphatase PTPRB during development. Compared toTek haploinsufficient mice, whic...
ConclusionHemodynamic deficiencies and structural damage might have already begun in the perimetrically normal hemifields of NTG eyes. Further studies are needed to elucidate whether the reduction in MVD may precede structural changes or the reduction in vasculature and structural loss may vary with disease severity in at least in some cases.

Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is a major, and currently the only, modifiable risk factor, that has been shown to reduce the risk of glaucoma onset and progression. Diurnal measurements of IOP, usually during office hours, are commonly used for the assessment of IOP variation and the relative success of medical, laser, or surgical IOP-lowering interventions. Such measurements, however, fail to capture variation in IOP over the day/night cycle, which may be influenced by factors such as body position.
