Bill: Record Every EMS Transport in Maine

A bill being advanced at the state level in Maine would require that every EMS transport in the state be videotaped and stored should patients or their families want the tapes reviewed. WGME reports that State Senator Dave Miramant submitted a bill after the death of a patient, who reportedly died while being transported to the hospital. A friend of that patient questioned why ambulances don't have recording devices. "I'm just not sure that capturing that digitally is in the patient's best interest," Jay Bradshaw of the Maine Ambulance Association told reporters. "There's a lot of obstacles before we could get from capturing the image to ultimately using it." According to the report, the Maine Ambulance Association says it would cost $1,000 to outfit each of the 500 ambulances in the state with recording devices, and thousands more to store and secure those recordings.
