Preoperative Asymptomatic Bacteriuria in Bariatric Surgery Patients
Background: Asymptomatic bacteriuria is the isolation of bacteria from urine in people without symptoms or signs. Patients with obesity are at increased risk for asymptomatic bacteriuria, and patients undergoing bariatric surgery are at increased risk for hospitalization due to urinary tract infection (UTI) after surgery. Understanding the prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria in patients undergoing bariatric surgery is of increasing importance.
