Paramedics Rescue Tortoise in California … and Transport to Appropriate Destination

In perhaps the most unusual rescue story from last week, paramedics from Heartland Fire Rescue and American Medical Response “came across a rather unusual patient” on Thursday, Oct. 18, according to the Fire department’s Facebook page.   As the tortoise slowly made its way down the sidewalks of El Cajon, a city just east of San Diego, paramedics easily caught up with the animal and transported it to the most appropriate destination: the El Cajon Animal Shelter. Thanks to social media, inquiries were made on Friday and comments on the Facebook post pointed to the tortoise’s possible home and owners. Don’t worry: This story has a happy ending. The tortoise was reunited with its owner, who identified and claimed his tortoise on Saturday morning.
