A 56-year-old automobile mechanic was referred to our rheumatology service by his orthopedist to evaluate left posterior knee pain and swelling that had been present for three months. The patient had undergone bilateral total knee arthroplasties (TKAs) for sports-related osteoarthritis three years before. In addition to the knee pain, the patient described several years of... CONCLUSION: technical success, treatment success, procedure duration, and overall adverse event rate were comparable between ERCP-BD and EUS-BD in decompressing malignant distal biliary obstruction. Nevertheless, EUS-BD had a significantly lower rate of PEP and a lower tendency toward stent reintervention than ERCP-BD. Therefore, EUS-BD might be a suitable alternative to ERCP-BD when performed by experts. PMID: 31729233 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

We examined US sensitivity for diagnosis of HCC in obese patients. Methods: Liver transplant patients data with HCC in explant was used (January 2012-December 2017). All patients underwent liver US within 3 months of diagnosis of HCC. Number/size of HCC lesions were extracted from radiologic and pathologic reports. Obesity was defined as BMI ≥30 kg/m2. Results: One hundred sixteen patients were included. 80% were male, with mean BMI of 31 kg/m2. The most common underlying liver disease was hepatitis C virus (62%). At the time of diagnosis, median number of HCC lesions was 2 (interquartile range [IQR], 1-3), and ...

Firstly, bovine whey proteins was pretreated by ultrasonic techniques, and its secondary structure was detected by circular dichroism. The pretreated whey proteins was used as the fermentation substrate by Kluyveromyces marxianus for microbial transformation. The single factor design and Box-Behnken Design (BBD) were carried out with the aim to optimize culture t...

For this reason, oxidative desulfurization (ODS) and ultrasound assisted oxidative desulfurization (UAOD) processes were applied, using oxygen, as the only oxidative agent, and polyoxometalate (POM) catalysts. The catalysts were analyzed using FT-IR, XRD, EDX, SEM and N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms along with...

A 5-month-old infant underwent resection of a mitral valve mass + mitral valvuloplasty at our hospital. The tricuspid valve mass was still small, and no tricuspid regurgitation was observed; therefore, the tricuspid valve mass ...

Over the past 3 decades, significant improvements and innovations have occurred in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. For example, the availability of high-definition endoscopes with detailed image enhancement capabilities allows us to routinely seek out nonpolypoid and precancerous lesions within the gastrointestinal tract; the wide variety of user-friendly accessories allows us to perform more complex resections through the endoscope, and advancements with endoscopic ultrasound allows us to perform precise assessments and therapies.
