Would taking a gap year hinder my chance at getting accepted at uni?

Follow 5 hours ago 5h ago Surely the better solution is to apply now and defer your entry for a year to take a gap year. That way if you don't get a place for whatever reason, you have your gap year to fix the problem and can apply again next year. You won't be discriminated against for taking a gap year, if anything a well used gap year is encouraged and looked upon favourably. The reasoning is wrong but it does make more sense to apply this year rather than during your gap year. It's much easier to talk to tutors face to face to get references, get feedback on your application, etc. when you're still in Year 13, as opposed to after you've left and have no contact with teachers. Put another way, there's no good reason not to apply in Year 13 and simply defer entry.
