Mississippi EMTs Train for Dangerous Situations on the Road

WLOX.com - The News for South Mississippi BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Every day on the road, we see EMTs rushing to medical emergencies, or to the hospital. While drivers are supposed to get out of the way, American Medical Response in South Mississippi trains their drivers to deal with any possible scenario. "We have precious cargo," said EMT Courtney Cotter. "We have the medic. We have the basic. And then we have the patient, which is the most important thing." Cotter has worked as an EMT for AMR for about four years. She has seen first hand how people react to emergency vehicles, and it's not always what you'd expect. "There's a lot of people on the roads that swerve in and out and don't behave appropriately," said Cotter. "You move right when you hear sirens, they don't do that. So this is just defensive driving for that purpose." This defensive driving course is mandatory for new hires at AMR. Read more at WLOX.
