A topical nitric-zinc complex solution as an alternate therapy for difficult-to-treat and resistant common warts and external genital warts

Background: Verrucae are benign epithelial proliferations, caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) infection occurring on the skin and mucosa. Traditional therapeutic options for warts, such as cryotherapy, topical salicylic acid, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or podophyllin applications, induce a local destruction of the epidermis with proven efficacy but often high recurrence rates or scarring. Nitric-zinc complex is a solution for topical application, inducing a local destruction by tissue denaturation (fixation) rather than erosion (acid hydrolysis).
