Implementation of a wound care curriculum in medical student and resident training

Introduction: The worldwide burden of wound care is staggering for medical professionals and patients. The aging population and increasing incidence of diabetes and obesity present significant challenges to minimizing the morbidity and mortality associated with chronic, nonhealing wounds. Appropriate management of wounds due to burns, trauma, surgical incisions and systemic diseases spans multiple subspecialties, including dermatology, emergency medicine, internal medicine and surgery. It is, therefore, vital to educate all medical professionals on the basics of wound care.
