Oropharyngeal dysphagia and its related health problems in Iranian elderly people: A scope of the work for future

ConclusionsThere is very limited information about the swallowing status of the elderly in Iran. The data in this population showed: 41.2% of nursing home residents, 50% of stroke patients suffer from dysphagia. The health status of elderly people in Iran, in the dysphagia related health problems such as malnutrition and oral health is poor. Therefore, there is a need to consider this problem in a systematic multidisciplinary manner. Hence, policymakers, researchers, health care providers, industries and society should work together to improve the quality of care for these people.
