Reduced plasma levels of APC or protein C (PC) are associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism. APC also displays cytoprotective functions and its therapeutic use has been evaluated in severe sepsis and is under evaluation in several diseases with an important inflammatory compon...

AbstractThe inverse association between physical activity and arterial thrombotic disease is well established. Evidence on the association between physical activity and venous thromboembolism (VTE) is divergent. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of published observational prospective cohort studies evaluating the associations of physical activity with VTE risk. MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and manual search of relevant bibliographies were systematically searched until 26 February 2019. Extracted relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the maximum versus minimal amount of physical a...

Conclusions: Age should not be a limiting factor when choosing AVF as the preferred HD access. Brachiocephalic AVF has better primary and secondary patency with higher overall median survival. However RCF also provides reasonably good survival rates with acceptable complications in elderly population. Thrombosis and fistulas that fail to mature present as a primary concern to patients in elderly population, and demand further study.

CONCLUSIONS: The present findings suggest that the serum sdLDL cholesterol level is a relevant biomarker for the future development of CHD that offers benefit beyond the serum LDL cholesterol level and a possible therapeutic target to reduce the burden of CHD in a Japanese community. ConclusionsDuplex ultrasound has significant limitations in the initial evaluation of patients with suspected SCV thrombosis, with false-negative results in 21% of patients with proven VTOS. This is rarely acknowledged in ultrasound reports, but false-negative ultrasound studies have the potential to delay definitive imaging, thrombolysis, and further treatment for VTOS. Initial false-negative ultrasound results are associated with progressive thrombus extension and a more frequent need for SCV bypass reconstruction at the time of surgical treatment.Graphical Abstract

In conclusion, tetramethylpyrazine protected BMECs and inhibited platelets adhesion to BMECs after OGD/R injury, which was partially mediated by inhibiting P38 MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways.

In this study, we sought to determine levels of circulating thrombin in patients with septic shock. To characterize levels of circulating, active thrombin in patients with septic shock. 48 patients with septic shock were included in this prospective, observational study. Blood samples were obtained on admission, day 1, day 3 and day 6. Levels of active thrombin were measured using a standardized, clinically applicable oligonucleotide (aptamer)-based enzyme-capture assay (OECA). Thrombin levels were correlated with established indirect thrombin parameters, conventional coagulation tests, laboratory parameters, patient chara...
