Authors: Vijayvergiya R, Kanabar K, Kaushal S, Lal A, Krishnan S Abstract A 42-year-old female with end-stage chronic kidney disease, who was on maintenance hemodialysis for the last 3 years, presented with facial and upper-limb swelling of 2-month duration. A computed tomography (CT) scan confirmed significant stenosis of the superior vena cava (SVC). Following discussion in a multidisciplinary meeting, it was proposed to perform a repeat endovascular intervention to relieve the SVC obstruction and manage the migrated stent. AbstractCOVID-19 is a viral disease due to the infection of the novel Corona virus SARS-CoV-2, that has rapidly spread in many countries until the World Health Organization declared the pandemic from March 11, 2020. Elderly patients and those affected by hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and chronic pulmonary and cardiovascular conditions are more susceptible to present more severe forms of COVID-19. These conditions are often represented in dialytic renal end-stage patients. Moreover, dialysis patients are more vulnerable to infection due to suppression of the immune system. Growing evidences, although still supported by f...

Authors: Mo YW, Sun CY, Song L, Zhou LF, Zhuang TT, Zhong M, Zheng SQ, Chen YG, Chen YH, Liu SX, Liang XL, Fu X Abstract BACKGROUND: The important effect of regular blood flow surveillance on arteriovenous fistula maintenance is emphasized. The ultrasonic dilution technique for blood flow surveillance can be performed during hemodialysis, but there are some limitations. Blood flow is traditionally measured by duplex Doppler ultrasound during the nondialysis period. However, the surveillance workload for arteriovenous fistula has increased with the rapid increase in the hemodialysis population size. Efficient method...

AbstractThe reduction of the dismally high mortality of current end-stage renal disease patients maintained on conventional standard haemodialysis (HD) remains an unmet medical need. Online haemodiafiltration (HDF) modes with various sites of fluid substitution (post-, pre-, mixed- and mid-dilution) are increasingly used worldwide as promising alternatives to conventional HD. Large scale cohort studies, post hoc analyses of randomized trials, and individual participant meta-analyses suggest that post-dilution and pre-dilution, especially with high substitution volumes, improve outcomes compared with conventional standard H...

ABSTRACT The indication for simultaneous bilateral native nephrectomy and the choice of surgical technique is of key importance, as these patients are burdened with a large comorbidity. The paper reports our experience of seven successful and completed simultaneous bilateral native nephrectomy procedures with retroperitoneal approach in the patient ’ s flank position. Seven patients (mean age 34), were indicated for the removal of both kidneys before the planned transplant. Six patients underwent haemodialysis from 48 to 84 months, and one underwent peritoneal dialysis for 60 months. Two patients had undergone grafte...

This study aimed to identify the time in therapeutic range (TTR) for dialysis patients on warfarin, and improve TTR with dietary review and intervention of interacting foods. We identified 151 patients undergoing hemodialysis in two units who were being treated with warfarin from January 1, 2010, through February 1, 2018, who were included in the overall TTR study. Of these, 15 patients were available to undergo the dietary intervention. International normalized ratio values were collected retrospectively for all eligible hemodialysis patients, and TTR was calculated for each period in which the patient was on hemodialysis.
