GallupAbstractThe existence of yawning across a diverse array of species has led many researchers to postulate its neurological significance. One hypothesis, which has garnered recent support, posits that yawns function to cool the brain by flushing hyperthermic blood away from the skull while simultaneously introducing a cooler arterial supply. The current study tested this hypothesis by examining how manipulations aimed at modifying carotid artery temperature, which ...

In this study, we tested the hypothesis that transgenerational DEHP exposure alters anxiety-like behavior and neural gene expression in both male and female mice. Pregnant CD-1 mice were orally dosed daily with either tocopherol-stripped corn oil or DEHP (20 or 200 μg/kg/day; 500 or 750 mg/kg/day) from gestational day 10.5 until birth to produce the F1 generation. Females from each generation were bred with untreated, unrelated CD-1 males to produce subsequent generations. Behavior and gene expression assays were performed with adult, intact F3 males and females. Transgenerational DEHP exposure increased time spent ...

Authors: Cynkier P Abstract In accordance with the Polish civil law, there are at least several ways to dispose of property in the event of death. One of them is a special form of oral testament. The main issue to be determined by the court is to either confirm or deny the existence of fear of imminent death of the testator at the time of bequest. For this purpose, the court uses expert psychiatrists' opinions. The article presents a case of a man in the terminal phase of a malignant disease who used an oral form of bequest. Such cases are relatively rare and therefore the described case is intended to illustrate t...

Authors: Sapota K, Nasierowski T Abstract Hoarding disorder is defined as an extensive collecting and difficulty in discarding objects and items perceived by others as not useful or having low value. As a consequence it leads to numerous problems which impact not only the patient but also his/her family and other people (e.g., residents of the same block of flats). The frequency of hoarding disorder in the United States and Europe is estimated as 2-6%. In the new classifications of psychiatric disorders (DSM-5 and ICD-11), hoarding disorder is classified as a separate disorder. The scientific research shows that ho...

CONCLUSIONS: It seems that one should focus on searching risk factors outside the procedures, and that certain recommendations should be developed regarding perioperative proceedings which might be beneficial for patients at risk of the impairment of their cognitive functions after a surgical procedure. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that mechanisms of sense of executive deficits depend on lateralization of pathology. The higher sense of executive deficits in people with right hemisphere pathology may be due to the efficiency of delayed memory, and may reflect an adequate self-assessment of own competence. The low DEX-S result of the group with the left hemisphere pathology may result from reduced, despite the absence of aphasia, language /semantic skills and not from the lack of insight into executive deficits.
