In advance of split, drugmaker Ironwood lays off 40 workers

Two months after Ironwood Pharmaceuticals announced its plan to split into two publicly-traded companies, the Cambridge drugmaker laid off around 40 employees, or 6 percent of its total staff. This reduction occurred last Wednesday as part of the company's process to separate into the two businesses, company spokeswoman Meredith Kaya said.
