"Uneasy" EMS in the Big Easy (New Orleans)

As noted in the article below from the Times-Picayune, politics appears to have reared its ugly head in New Orleans with the ouster of well respected, educated and street smart EMSDirector/Medical Director, Dr. Jeff Elder.   The termination of Deputy EMS Director Carl Flores in addition to Elder raises a red flag about a system that needs solid, seasoned, street-smart leadership and advocacy to continue to provide a high quality service to the citizens and visitors to New Orleans.   New Orleans EMS has some of the finest EMS providers in the country and are extremely taxed by increasing call volume, yet they are not treated equal to their fire and police counterparts in several areas, particular in pay rate and increases.    The hard working men and women of NOEMS have not had a pay increase in seven years - an injustice to these life-saving personnel.   From the Times-Picayune: Mayor-elect LaToya Cantrell's new Emergency Medical Services director, Dr. Emily Nichols, has no administrative experience and no experience running a fast-expanding department. Mayor-elect LaToya Cantrell's new Emergency Medical Services director, Dr. Emily Nichols, has no administrative experience and no experience running a fast-expanding department.
