Medication cost savings in inpatient oncology using an integrative medicine model
A growing body of research exists on the impact of integrative therapies such as massage, yoga, and meditation/relaxation on symptom management, costs, and patient satisfaction in both ambulatory and hospital-based settings.1 –6 A patient and relationship-centered approach that is fundamental to the practice of integrative medicine, engenders connection, trust, and communication. It may encourage a positive expectation of treatment outcome, akin to the placebo effect, and when appropriately harnessed can result in bett er treatment outcome.
