This study aims to observe the role of target miRNA(miR-652) of NOX2 in ischemic stroke. A rat cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (CI/R) injury model and an SH-SY5Y cell hypoxia/reoxygenation(H/R) model were used to simulate ischemic stroke, and corresponding gene expression, biochemical indicators and pathophysiological indicators were measured to observe the role of miR-652. NOX2 significantly increased in brain tissues subjected to I/R or in SH-SY5Y cells subjected to H/R, while the expression level of miR-652(potential target of NOX2) significantly decreased in both brain tissues and plasma. Overexpression of miR-652 signif...

In this study, a novel biosynthesized cellulose (BC)-based drug releasing duraplasty was developed and studied. The BC duraplasty fabrication process allowed readily incorporation of growth factors (GFs) in a sterile manner and control of physical and mechanical properties of the resulting duraplasty. Our results showed that BC duraplasty containing the highest amount of dry cellulose presented swelling ratio of 496 ± 27%, Young's modulus of 0.37 ± 0.02 MPa, ultimate tensile strength of 0.96 ± 0.02 MPa, while releasing GFs for over 10 days. In addition, neur...

Publication date: June 2020Source: Interdisciplinary Neurosurgery, Volume 20Author(s): Baha Eldin Adam, Emin Mehmet Eminoglu, Zeynep Karaoglu, Naci BalakAbstractRecent studies suggest that a total ischemic brain tissue volume>300 cm3 observed on CT is a significant indicator of an unfavorable outcome with a sensitivity of 100% after DC in patients with malignant ischemic stroke. In this article, we reported a 61-year-old male patient with poor preoperative clinical status and most predictive factors pointed to an unfavorable outcome who nonetheless demonstrated an acceptable functional recovery after DC. On cranial...

High blood pressure is the silent killer. It puts people at risk for heart attacks, strokes, vascular disease, kidney failure. It is basically really bad to have longstanding, undertreated high blood pressure. But it is also harmful to be told you have high blood pressure when you don’t, and to be treated for high blood […]Find jobs at  Careers by KevinMD.com.  Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now.  Learn more.

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of robot-assisted gait training (RAGT) on mobility, activities of daily living (ADLs), and quality of life (QoL) in stroke rehabilitation. Fifty-one stroke patients randomly assigned to Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3 received conventional training (CT) plus RAGT, CT, and RAGT, respectively. The training duration was for 6  weeks. The primary outcome measures were the Barthel Index (BI), Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale (SS-QOL), 6-Minute Walk Test (6-MWT), and Stair Climbing Test (SCT). The secondary outcomes were Fugl Meyer Assessment-Lower Extremit...
