Reducing Red Tape For Traveling Nurses

Details a new version of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), which allows licensed nurses to practice in any participating state without obtaining an additional state license. This provides flexibility to traveling nurses being used to address nursing shortages and contributes to the ability of nurses to provide telehealth across state lines. The new version adds the requirement for federal criminal background checks, which some states said was missing from the previous version. While this change has encouraged more states to sign-on to the agreement, some continue to have concerns about the NLC compact having lower requirements for licensure than their individual states.
