Engaging Osborne-Cotterill lesion with Mason 4 radial head elbow dislocation fracture: a case report of biomechanical importance and operative treatment

The “Osborne-Cotterill Lesion” was first described in 1966 as “an osteochondral fracture in the posterolateral margin of the humeral capitellum with or without a crater or shovel-like defect in the radial head.”4,7 Nowadays, it is well known that the stability of the elbow joint is provided by s tatic (osseous, capsular, ligamentous) and dynamic (muscular) structures.9 In elbow dislocation fractures, stability of the elbow joint can be severely compromised if sufficient reconstruction of osseous and soft tissue stabilizers does not occur.
