Blue Cross rolls out new program for autoimmune drugs

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, the state's largest health insurer, is implementing a new autoimmune biologic drug program in 2018. As part of the new program, which rolled out Jan. 1, prior authorization from the insurer will be required for Blue Cross customers who are prescribed biologic medications for autoimmune disorders.
