Diagnostic accuracy of the GerdQ questionnaire in the assessment of erosive esophagitis in patients preparing for bariatric surgery
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive esophagitis are common in patients with severe obesity and in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Assessment of GERD is recommended before bariatric surgery because it may affect surgical method of choice. GerdQ is a validated questionnaire for diagnosis of GERD with sensitivity of 65% and specificity 71% in primary care patients consulting for upper GI complaints. Our aim was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of GerdQ in two groups of patients preparing for bariatric surgery, one group with and one without T2DM, respectively.
