Adherence to over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide in patients with acne

To the Editor: Every current acne treatment guideline incorporates benzoyl peroxide (BP) as an important component of the treatment algorithm.1,2 In 2011, BP was switched from both a prescription and an over-the-counter (OTC) medication to an exclusively OTC one. The impact of this switch on patient adherence has not been studied.
