Just how men demonstrate caring in clinical practice: a literature review

Publication date: Available online 29 July 2016 Source:International Journal of Nursing Sciences Author(s): Wen Zhang, Yi-Lan Liu this article aims to explore gender stereotype of male nurses regarding the use of intimate care especially the application of touch, and reveal the barriers exiting for men implementing caring, finally identify the strategies they can use to copy with these barriers. Literature review showed that role stereotype is still prevalent within nursing profession. Public media should recognize the diversity of caring and apply positive materials to shape a new image of nursing. The nursing faculty should develop a climate of acceptance and empower male nursing students both in the nursing school and clinical field. In general, male nurses themselves should deeply believe that nursing is just a profession suitable for both men and women.
