MIT Develops ‘Second Skin’ That Can Temporarily Erase Wrinkles

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) – MIT scientists announced Monday that they’ve developed a new material that can temporarily erase wrinkles and more. They’re calling the silicone-based polymer a “second skin” that can smooth wrinkles for up to 24 hours and potentially be used to one day deliver drugs that treat eczema and other skin conditions. “It’s an invisible layer that can provide a barrier, provide cosmetic improvement, and potentially deliver a drug locally to the area that’s being treated,” MIT associate professor Daniel Anderson said in a statement. “Those three things together could really make it ideal for use in humans.” The treatment is applied in two phases. First, an invisible cream is applied to the skin. Then a catalyst is added to cause a reaction that creates a compressing force. “Eye bags” before and after treatment (Image credit Olivo Labs) Researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital, Living Proof and Olivo Labs also worked to develop the new material.
