S.F. legislation to make employers pay for parental leave gets vote tonight

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors, voting today, is expected to approve a proposal by Supervisor Scott Wiener mandating that employers in the city offer six weeks of fully paid parental leave to their workers. The proposal, which would shoulder businesses of more than 20 employees with the cost of offering 45 percent of a worker’s salary while he or she is on leave, has received considerable pushback from small-business groups.
