Treatment of Antipsychotic-Related Akathisia Revisited: The Role of Serotonin 2A Receptor Antagonists

Abstract: Akathisia remains a prevalent, clinically significant, and therapeutically challenging adverse event associated with antipsychotic treatment. Compelling evidence supports therapeutic efficacy and clinical utility of agents with marked serotonin 2A receptor antagonism, primarily low-dose mirtazapine, as an effective and well-tolerated antiakathisia treatment.
