An Organized Approach to Attract a Diverse Pool of Applicants Within a Surgery Residency Program

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in medicine have been acknowledged as important requirements for the modern medical landscape to reflect the current diverse patient population. The benefits of having a diverse healthcare workforce have been heavily catalogued in the literature, from improving health care access to yielding positive financial returns.1,2 However, disparities in the proportion of those underrepresented by race and gender in medicine continue to prevail, especially in surgery.
