The Value of Sharing Health Data Between Acute Care and Post-Acute Care

PointClickCare, having promoted interoperability for a long time in a few areas such as senior care, has expanded to include acute care, and particularly to connect it with post-acute care. Brian Drozdowicz is Senior Vice President and General Manager of Acute & Payer Markets. In this video, he and Chief Medical Officer, Hamad Husainy, DO, FACEP, parse the effects of new regulations at both federal and state levels, as well as the allure of value-based care. Husainy says the regulations put “new teeth” into requirements for interoperability. They have received the Certified EHR Technology (CEHRT) designation from the ONC. In addition, ACOs and other value-based programs have to share data to get financial benefit. One of their clients reduced hospital readmissions from 25% to 8%. Drozdowicz cites the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) as a promising driver of interoperability. Still, it is “too early to tell whether standards are producing results.” Watch the video for more on the potential for achieving ROI through digital sharing of health data.
