Comparison of Learning Outcomes Between Active Participants and Observer Roles in Simulation-Based Learning

Simulation-based learning plays an important role in competency-based nursing education in preparing nursing students to become competent nurses (Cole, 2023). Korean simulation educators are responsible for operating simulation scenarios and conducting debriefing within limited class hours by assigning up to 20 nursing students to a simulation-based class (Kabone, 2021). Due to the large number of learners and limited simulation operation resources, students are often limited to the role of either participant or observer, with the former actively participating in simulation scenarios and the latter observing the performance of participants (Bates, Moore, Greene,& Cranford, 2019).
