Paradigms in Trauma Laparoscopy for Anterior Abdominal Stab Wounds: A Scoping Review

Over the past several decades, surgical management of many conditions has shifted to favour minimally invasive approaches. Technical advances in imaging, minimally invasive techniques and physiological monitoring have facilitated an evolution in management. Improved laparoscopic techniques have superseded open approaches in a range of clinical scenarios by offering improved outcomes and fewer operative complications. Whilst less invasive management of blunt abdominal trauma has been greatly advanced by high-quality cross-sectional imaging and interventional radiology, there has been a slower shift towards minimally invasive approaches to manage penetrating abdominal trauma (PAT).
