Peripartum Sepsis

AbstractPurpose of ReviewMaternal sepsis is a leading cause of maternal mortality. The purpose of this review is to go in standard and nuanced care in its treatment and diagnosis.Recent FindingsRecent findings in the diagnosis of sepsis have found that criteria like quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment  (qSOFA) may not be as effective as originally thought in its diagnosis. The treatment of maternal sepsis is still centered in early broad-spectrum antibiotics, fluid resuscitation, and source control.SummaryWe recommend that clinicians refrain from using modalities like qSOFA alone in the diagnosis of maternal sepsis. We also recommend for early intervention upon suspicion and escalation of care when appropriate.
