The rate of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after bariatric surgery is low (.2% –3.5%) [2]; however VTE is among the top 3 causes of death. Since prophylaxis is the most effective intervention against VTE, several publications have attempted to develop a preoperative scoring risk stratification.
