Power and capital: In osteopathy

This paper is an exploration regarding how power is used and enacted within osteopathy, a UK healthcare profession. Bourdieu's theory of capital and a Foucauldian lens are used to view and critique the sociocultural norms within osteopathy and specifically address issues of inequality and oppression of non-dominant social groups within the UK osteopathic context. The UK osteopathic profession is largely, White, heterosexual and non-disabled. The people who use osteopathic services are typically also, White, non-disabled and have higher levels of social and financial capital.
