Updates in Obstetric and Gynecologic Emergencies

If you were to ask a group of emergency physicians about which emergency department (ED) procedures produce the most stress, you ’d probably hear “childbirth” as one of the most common answers. The irony here, of course, is that childbirth is not a “procedure.” It is a natural process that has been occurring for thousands of years…usually with great success and without physician assistance. However, the fact that complications sometimes arise in this natural process, which is supposed to be associated with a happy outcome, is a major reason for the stress.
