34530 Pyogenic granulomatous formation due to transepithelial elimination of abdominal hernia mesh

Foreign body reactions occur when nonnative material is embedded into the body, with subsequent rejection of that material leading to granulomatous formation. Granulomatous responses to foreign material most often present with a sarcoidal or palisading arrangement. Pyogenic granulomatous formation is reported, albeit a rarer presenting sign. This is a case of an 80-year-old Caucasian woman who presented to an outpatient clinic with a 3-month history of indurated red-brown-purple papules coalescing into plaques with ulceration on her central abdomen.
