Leveraging Big Data in Nursing Practice

As much as 30% of the entire world ’s data is generated in the health care space. Sources of health care data include claims, patient medical records, and billing codes. Nurse leaders and their interprofessional partners have opportunities to proactively plan for, implement, and monitor the extraction of insights from these data to improve health care outcomes, affordability, and patient experiences. To leverage these data, health care organizations, large and small, must improve their data management practices and increase skills that support those data practices.
