CONCLUSION: The provision of immunisation training within midwifery education and continued professional development is critical. Appropriately resourcing midwives with the necessary infrastructure, education and resources to fully inform parents about immunisation may have a positive impact on vaccine uptake. Discussion Barth syndrome is characterized by a dilated cardiomyopathy, proximal skeletal muscle weakness, neutropenia and short stature that usually presents at birth or soon after. It is a rare X-linked recessive disease process caused by mutations in the TAZ gene. The TAZ gene codes for tafazzin which alters cardiolipin in mitochondria. Characteristic facies can be seen especially in infancy including a tall and broad forehead, prominent chin and full cheeks, larger ears, and deep-set eyes. Most patients present at birth or soon afterwards but some may not until later in life. Life expectancy is reduced with many childr...

This study examines associations between prenatal Tdap vaccination and influenza vaccination of mothers and hepatitis B vaccination of their infants. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using data from electronic medical records from 15,468 deliveries to 14,925 mothers occurring April 2, 2014-December 3, 2016 at a university hospital in Texas. Hepatitis B vaccine receipt in the first 3 days of life was dichotomized. Margins post-estimation commands in Stata SE 15.1 were used to obtain predicted probabilities and risk differences after estimating odds ratios in logistic regression with robust variance estimates. Ad...

In this study, the seroprevalence and risk factors associated with HEV and IAV infection in farmed wild boars were investigated in China. A total of 758 serum samples were collected from farmed wild boars between 2015 and 2016, and antibodies against HEV and IAV were examined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using commercially available kits. The overall prevalence of anti-HEV antibodies was 24.54% (186/758, 95% CI 21.48-27.60) in farmed wild boars. There were statistically significant differences in the HEV seroprevalence in farmed wild boars of different ages (66 days: 26.36%) (P

MOV10 has emerged as an important host antiviral factor. MOV10 not only inhibits various viruses, including human immunodeficiency virus type 1, hepatitis C virus and vesicular stomatitis virus, but also restricts the activity of retroelements long interspersed nucleotide element-1, Alu, SVA and intracisternal A particles. Here, we report that MOV10 suppresses influenza A virus infection through interacting with viral nucleoprotein (NP), sequestering viral RNP in the cytoplasm and causing the degradation of viral vRNA. The antiviral activity of MOV10 depends on the integrity of P-bodies. We also found that the antiviral ac...
